Clay Walker

One of the best-kept secrets in mid-20th century American art, Clay Walker achieved a level of success few artists have the privilege of experiencing. The Sylvania, Ohio native had more than 200 shows between 1955 and 1964, steady sales, devoted collectors, and acquisitions by museums across the country as well as the Library of Congress. Yet success in the art market was not Walker’s goal. In fact, he felt it was a compromising distraction and by 1968 he stopped showing publicly all together. Though he would continue to produce work until his death until 2008, he shared them with only a few collectors, friends and family.
