River House Arts is thrilled to present Immigrants, Outcasts, and Other Heroes, an exhibition of paintings by Augusto Bordelois.

More than two-dozen paintings and drawings by the Cuban artist will be on view from April 21 through June 4th in the first-floor gallery and in the adjacent Registry Bistro restaurant.  An opening reception will be held on April 21st beginning at 6 p.m.

Augusto Bordelois explore themes as diverse and complicated as immigration and war, insecurity and fear, romantic and familial love, and the absurdities of the modern age.   Generously proportioned figures, vibrant colors, and not a small amount of humor, bring the artist's incisive observations and critiques to life.  While Bordelois’ imagery could be endlessly parsed for hidden messages, themes, and literary symbolism, viewers can also just stand back and take in the near cinematic beauty of it all.  

Since emigrating from Cuba in 1999, Augusto Bordelois has been living and working in the Cleveland area.  He is a graduate of the University of Havana and regularly exhibits his paintings both nationally and internationally. His work has been included in more than 120 group exhibitions and 30 solo exhibitions, is in private collections across the U.S., Latin America and Europe, and can be found in several institutional collections, including Cleveland Marshall College of Law / Cleveland State University and The Artists Archives of the Western Reserve (AAWR).
