​Using a digital jacquard loom that turns pixels into threads, intimate family snapshots, exquisite skill and extraordinary physical stamina, Lia Cook creates monumental works that blur distinctions between technology, weaving, painting, and photography. Most recently she's introduced brain imaging and the neuro-scientific complexities of human response into her works, including brain images of human subjects captured while  interacting with her own textiles.  
 

Cook is Professor of Art at California College of Arts and Crafts and Chair of the Textile Department. She is the recipient of several National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and has been exhibiting her work nationally and internationally for more than 25 years. A  retrospective organized by the French government, and a traveling exhibition organized by the Oakland Museum were both shown at the Smithsonian. Lia Cook is represented in the permanent collections of more than two dozen museums around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Smithsonian, The National Collection in France, De Young Museum, Cleveland Museum of Art, Boston Museum of Fine Arts, and Musee Bellerieve in Switzerland.
