By his own account, Tom Lingeman's cast and fabricated metal works are  rooted in a fascination with ritual icons, funerary vessels and the mystery embodied in monumental sculptural objects.

“Like ‘standing stones’, by their very permanence on the landscape, they mark time and space for us.”

Lingeman’s series of vertical freestanding sculptures represent a further extension of this concept while reflecting the artist’s personal and long-held interest in the monuments of the American rural cemetery.

Working primarily in cast bronze and welded steel, Tom Lingeman is also a draughtsman who uses drawing as a means of designing and planning sculpture as well as an end in itself.
