Chelsey Hammersmith
For Chelsey Hammersmith, metal work is less about controlling and manipulating the medium than it about working with—and patiently observing—its natural behaviors, and reactions. Including the reactions of the viewer. Her Rorshach series of reclaimed silver and diamonds are the unfettered results of marrying hot metal and water.
The interpretation of the final form is highly individual. Similarly, in her Acrylic series of headdresses, necklaces, and breastplates, Hammersmith is suggestive not definitive about the form or purpose.
