Waking Dream
Ewuresi Archer
Crystal Miller
Samantha Schneider

Two students and one recent alumna of the Cleveland Institute of Art explore issues of beauty, identity, and interior truths. Ewuresi Archer utilizes florescent colors and distorted shapes to create unnatural environments that question the nature of reality and how it frequently slips our grasp. Crystal Miller deconstructs aesthetics that represent her Blackness and personal experiences with hair through unconventional materials such as beads yarn, rhinestones, and foam. Samantha Schneider sets up her large scale self-portraits as intensely saturated film stills or magazine advertisements using lighting tactics found in action, sci-fi and horror movies in which her various personas play the starring roles.

Theo Brooks | Ritual Relations
Exquisitely crafted sculptural glass by British-born artist Theo Brooks, a 2021 MFA graduate from Bowling Green State University, is inspired by deep research into the use and creation of artifacts found in Cyprus from around 2000BC. Brooks delves into his personal Cypriot cultural identity by reimagining and reinventing faux ritual objects.  “The reinvented objects allow me to discover a part of my heritage that I have been removed from, whilst going back even further into these ancient practices to unknown and mysterious 'spaces'. The reinvention of some of these objects reflect a culture gone and remembered through the objects they made. Visual clues and associations to ritual in the work allows one to believe they could be objects of ‘contemporary antiquity’ and ceremonially used by an unknown past or future culture.”

Amber Koprin | Lawn
Koprin's diminutive nightscapes invite viewers “to shift between comfort and discomfort, to feel fluttering moments of loneliness, melancholy, mystery, and unsettling stillness.” Her fictionalized depictions of the Midwestern house in the dead of night with their telltale suggestions of home - lawn chairs, fences, sidewalks, trashcans, hoses coiled carelessly in the shadows – appear theatrically staged, yet deeply familiar. Koprin received her MFA from BGSU in 2020
