The very notion of being an artist is an affront to the notion of playing things safe. You must take chances…I don’t really consider how an audience will react to a drawing when I’m in the midst of creating it. The ideas come too fast and furiously and instead I focus on being as bold as my inner nature allows. My work is reaching for what I am reaching for: absolute freedom of thought. The results can be hilarious and also haunting I think.

 

John Elkerr received his BFA with honors from the University of Michigan. He has exhibited throughout the U.S. and Europe with some of the most notable figures in Contemporary Raw or Intuitive Art, and is represented in the Musee de creation franche in Belges, France.
