Jeanne Lyons Butler
Capturing moments of intensity, whether quiet, raucous, still and ordered, or angry and frustrated, are at the core of Butler's work. Layers of white with sequences of slashes, hatch-marks or shapes have grown to become her language over decades. The simplicity and directness of white is integral to all her work. It’s an absolute, that cannot be erased; a solid foundation and a statement of it’s own.
(The artist’s techniques and materials include oil paint, graphite, cotton, rayon and nylon threads; appliqué using cotton, silk, and linen.)
