I begin at the loom, building cloth line by line. Once woven, the work is deconstructed—either through an immediate intervention or a slow, mediated process. In all cases, the cyclic relationship of creation and destruction is at the heart of my work.
The delicate drape and exquisite weave of John Paul Morabito’s work appears to be carefully marked with surface patterns. A closer look reveals a repetition of holes burned through.
Dedicated to the art of the loom for more than a decade, Morabito’s work has been widely exhibited. He received a BFA in fiber from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2005 and is currently attending the Chicago Institute of Art.
