Nishiki Tayui
Whether she’s working on paper or on carefully prepared linen canvas, Nishiki Tayui suspends a tender balance between the fundamental aesthetic of her native, Japanese culture and that of her adopted Western home. Merging traditional Japanese patterns and color schemes into landscapes guided by a Western design aesthetic and color symbolism, Tayui’s paintings are vivid depictions of a continually shifting interior. Her dreamlike imagery is quiet, often subdued in tone but never still.
